Levi’s are a style staple that will likely be around forever, which is true to form for the brand who boast about the quality of their clothing, did you know that the two-horse trademark actually symbolises two horses trying to pull apart a pair of Levi’s waist overalls?!? Talk about brand confidence!

Synonymous with both workmen and supermodels, Levi’s have cleverly navigated the decades since the late 1800’s by developing an iconic brand and moving with the times. In 1934 Levi’s introduced the first ever woman’s line of jeans, which was ground-breaking at the time as it was considered unacceptable for women to wear jeans back then, so those first women who did were real trailblazers!

What makes Levi’s so recognisable is the Levi’s red tab which adorned every back pocket of our favourite jeans. But savvy shoppers will know that it isn’t always red, over the years the tab has been orange, blue, black and even silver! Finding a pair with a different tab colour is the stuff of vintage hunters’ dreams and occasionally these items pop out of our deliveries much to the delight of our staff!

This May Levi’s 501 jeans turn 150 years old! What made this style so innovative at the time were the metal rivets used to hold down the corners of the pockets which gave them their strength. But as they entered the mainstream that very feature was what could have been their downfall as people started to make complaints about the rivets scratching their furniture! But in true Levi’s fashion they developed a solution of rivet covers and marketed this innovation as a bold new design feature!   

Levi’s have had so many design innovations over the years, and everyone has their favourite, growing up in the 90’s my iconic jean is the 1999 Engineered Jean. I can vividly remember the bizarre “Twisted to fit” TV adverts where models oddly contorted their bodies to reflect the twisted seams of the new style jeans. The combo of clever design and advertising have made each era of Levi jeans legendary.
